Doctors cite narcotics withdrawal symptoms in baby girl’s death

A 28-day baby girl was pronounced dead at the Venizeleio Hospital in Iraklio, Crete, on Friday, doctors announced over the weekend. According to initial reports, the infant had been suffering from drug withdrawal symptoms as authorities alleged its parents were both drug users.

Police were alerted of the case by the hospital and an investigation is under way.

Authorities said a postmortem, which may take place in Athens, should shed further light into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
