Body found in freezer identified as 65-year-old local man

A body found by a bailiff in a freezer in an apartment in the southern Athenian suburb of Kallithea on Tuesday morning has been identified as a 65-year-old local man who had been reported missing by his brother almost a year ago.

According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the remains were discovered by a bailiff serving a seizure warrant for a Bulgarian woman who had worked as a housekeeper for the 65-year-old and declared his Kallithea home as her place of residence. She reportedly returned to Bulgaria with her son several months ago, the AMNA said.

The bailiff reportedly found the door to the apartment open when he turned up with a locksmith to serve the warrant. He had entered the property to look for clues as to the woman’s whereabouts when he discovered the 65-year-old’s dismembered body in the freezer and alerted police.

A postmortem is expected to ascertain whether the man died of natural causes or was killed.
