Woman and granddaughter attacked with ax in Patra

A 45-year-old woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter were being treated for serious injuries at a Patra hospital on Wednesday after allegedly being attacked with an ax.

Witnesses told police who arrested the suspected perpetrator, a man aged 30, that he attacked the woman and the child following an argument with another resident at the Roma camp in which they all lived on the outskirts of the western port city.

The child was hit in the head but is out of danger, while the woman is at risk of losing an arm.
