Director of Greek Citizens’ Protection Ministry to quit

Vassilis Mastroyiannis, the director at Alternate Citizens’ Protection Minister Nikos Toskas’s (photo) office, is stepping down amid rumors of a tense relationship between the two men.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that things came to a head when Mastroyiannis was pictured dancing with Toskas’s predecessor, Yiannis Panousis, at a celebration organized by police unionists.

Mastroyiannis denied that this was the case and said that he had made his decision to step down some time ago.

The outgoing official said that as he was elected to Parliament in last September’s elections he wanted to have more time to dedicate to his political career.
