Assault on official may be linked to business interests, police believe
The Security Police have taken over an investigation into a violent attack earlier this week on Attica’s general secretary of decentralized administration, Popi Kardamitsi, as the assault is believed to be related to her work.
Kardamitsi was assaulted outside her home in the northern Athenian suburb of Aghia Paraskevi by two hooded men as she tried to get into her car. She was punched several times in the head but suffered only minor injuries.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that the attack was fueled by policy decisions reached by the official that may have impinged on specific business interests.
