Mitsotakis makes first visit to Cyprus as ND leader

During an official visit to Nicosia on Monday, New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined the need for Turkey to honor the commitments it has made to the European Union as regards limiting and controlling the influx of immigrants over its territory into Greece.

Following talks with Cypriot state officials, Mitsotakis remarked that the actions taken by Turkey so far “are not encouraging.”

He expressed hope that common ground will be established between the EU and Turkey in terms of the management of migration flows to ensure that Greece is not faced with an even larger humanitarian problem.

In his comments, Mitsotakis also referred to the performance of the Cypriot economy, noting that the small nation was on course to emerge from the memorandum it signed with its creditors within the next two months.
