Police protest outside Greek premier’s residence ahead of larger rally

A group of police officers stage a protest outside the Maximos Mansion on Friday morning, holding banners expressing their discontent with a pension overhaul being prepared by the government.

Protesters railed against Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, accusing of reneging on SYRIZA's promises to curb unemployment and protect pensions that have been subject to several cuts over the years.

The brief rally dispersed without any upheaval but police are expected to monitor a larger anti-austerity rally scheduled to take place in central Athens on Friday afternoon when fire service workers are to join police officers in protesting the planned changes to the pension system.
