Scooter-riding policemen return in different guise
The 65 policemen that served in the force’s scooter-riding Delta squad are to be redeployed to help the riot police guard potential targets such as PASOK’s headquarters in central Athens, which have been firebombed three times in recent weeks.
Police chiefs decided Wednesday that the new squad would be called “Omikron” and that the officers in question would be split into four teams.
Each team will have five scooters that will be used to patrol the area around buildings guarded by riot police.
The Delta squad was disbanded in October by Alternate Minister for Citizens’ Protection Nikos Toskas after it was deemed to have produced poor results.
The 65 policemen were then transferred to the riot squad.
