Government to announce TV license tenders

The government was expected to announce the tenders for four TV licenses following the approval of a contentious bill on broadcasting regulations by a slim majority of 154 MPs this week.
In an interview published in Saturday’s Parapolitika newspaper, State Minister Nikos Pappas said the competition for the licenses will take place in four consecutive rounds organized by the General Secretariat for Information and Communication.
Greece’s digital signal provider, Digea, would only provide signals for authorized channels, the minister added.
In a House debate earlier this week, New Democracy chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis accused the coalition of “choosing the path of authoritarian practices.”
