Train security guard faces dismissal over harassment

STASY, the company that manages fixed-track forms of public transport in Athens, on Monday requested the dismissal of a private security guard who was filmed verbally abusing a passenger the previous day.

Footage of the incident that was uploaded on YouTube by another commuter on Sunday showed the guard ordering the passenger, an African migrant who can be seen traveling with a large bag on the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway, to move to the last railway wagon, which is usually used by cyclists.

After the passenger refuses to leave the wagon, the guard continues to harass him. “I am in charge here,” he can be heard telling the man after he shows him his ticket.

The incident ends as a fellow passenger, who is also capturing the scene on her mobile phone, comes in defense of the migrant passenger.

In a statement Monday, STASY condemned the incident adding that it would seek compensation for any damage to the company’s image.
