Three held for ‘Kurdish’ arms

The three Britons of Kurdish origin caught with guns and ammunition in Alexandroupoli, northeastern Greece, were remanded in custody Friday after facing a local prosecutor.

Court sources said two of the men admitted to being paid to transfer the cache, which was hidden in a caravan, to the Kurdish territories of northern Iraq. The third man said he knew nothing of the illegal shipment. They all denied that there was a fourth member of the group that managed to cross into Turkey.

Greek authorities are waiting for responses from German and Austrian counterparts regarding the origin of the weapons and ammunition found in the men’s possession.
