Staff, spare part shortages causing delays to buses

Roughly one in three shifts at OSY, the public company responsible for running buses and trolley buses in Athens, is not covered due to staff shortages.

According to figures provided by OSY, staff carried out some 12,000 shifts per year in 2013 and 2014, but fulfilled less than 10,000 last year.

Along with a shortage of spare parts, which has led to mechanics stripping down buses that are not in service (including their tires), this has caused severe delays to some routes in the capital. Passengers sometimes have to wait more than half an hour than they should for buses to arrive.
