Court overturns original ruling in acid attack case

A Piraeus appeals court has overturned an original ruling three years ago that awarded compensation to SYRIZA MEP Constantina Kuneva after she fell victim to a notorious acid attack in 2008 by unknown assailants.

A court of first instance had deemed the incident as being work-related accident and ordered her employer, a private cleaning firm, to pay Kuneva, a labor union activist at the time, 250,0000 euros in compensation. The judge ruled that the company had failed to protect its employee.

On Tuesday, however an appeals court overturned that ruling, saying there was no evidence to suggest the company was in any way culpable.
