Greeks most pessimistic in EU about bloc’s prospects

Greeks are the most pessimistic over the EU’s future, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Wednesday, which also said Greece had among the lowest standards of living in the 28-member bloc.

More specifically, seven in 10 Greeks believe the EU has strayed down the wrong path, while 81 percent simply don’t trust it.

The survey, which was conducted in the fall of 2015, also shows that nine out of 10 Greeks (92 percent) do not trust political parties, compared with 78 percent in the rest of the EU, while 83 percent distrust Parliament.

The tarnished image of the country’s media was also reflected in the results, with 80 percent saying they do not trust TV as a news source, compared to the EU average of 47 percent. However, almost one in two (43 percent) said they trusted the Internet more.
