Child, 8, found abandoned in dumpster
An 8-year-old girl was found abandoned in a street dumpster in Patra city center by a passer-by, authorities said Tuesday.
The child was found late Monday evening and was transferred to a local police station before being given a clean bill of health after undergoing medical tests at Patra hospital.
The parents, who were tracked down by police and arrested for negligence, said the child was living with its grandmother because they had financial problems. The grandmother was also arrested and all three were expected to appear before a Patra prosecutor Tuesday.
Police speculated that the child had climbed into the dumpster looking for clothes.
