Salamina to hold referendum over tunnel
Residents of the island of Salamina are to hold a referendum on Sunday over plans for the construction of a 1.1-kilometer underwater tunnel linking it to Perama on the mainland.
Local authorities are urging voters to come out and to “get informed about all the aspects of the project, the potential and outlook it will afford the island, along with the problems it creates.”
Salamina is the largest island in the Saronic Gulf, about 2 kilometers from the port of Piraeus and 16 km west of Athens.
