Local officials work to block use of beach volleyball stadium as court

The government’s move to use buildings at a stadium built for beach volleyball during the 2004 Olympics in Athens as courtrooms may be abandoned after protests by local authorities.
The Mayor of Palaio Faliro, Dionysis Hatzidakis, told Vima FM on Tuesday that he, along with the mayors of Kallithea and Moschato, as well as Attica Governor Rena Dourou, had made it clear to the government that they would fight to block the decision.
Dourou reportedly voiced her concerns to ministers on Monday.
Naftemporiki daily reported that the government is now considering the option of converting a building in Rouf, central Athens, to be used as a court.
