Greek prosecutor urges Supreme Court to uphold ex-minister’s conviction
A prosecutor has urged the Supreme Court to uphold a two-year suspended prison sentence handed to former PASOK minister Yiannos Papantoniou and his wife Stavroula Kourakou for inaccurate income declarations.
Both were convicted on charges they gave inaccurate information in their “pothen esches” (income source declaration) in 2008.
Both appealed the conviction but deputy prosecutor Xenia Dimitriou urged the Supreme Court to uphold the decision.
It was not clear when the court will rule on the appeal.
The couple also received a four-year suspended prison sentence and were fined 10,000 euros for other inaccuracies in other pothen esches declarations after 2008.
