Cabinet reshuffle not in cards, says gov’t spokeswoman

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has no immediate plans to reshuffle his leftist-led coalition government, spokeswoman Olga Gerovasili said in an interview on Friday in response to media reports.

“It is my assessment that it is not imminent in the immediate future,” Gerovasili was quoted by Naftemporiki daily as telling Stigma Radio, adding that the prime minister said he will consider a reshuffle only after an assessment of ministers’ performance.

Gerovasili said that the government’s efforts are currently focused on wrapping up a performance review at a meeting of eurozone finance ministers on May 24 and on progressing with talks with international lenders on debt relief.

“What we know as a fact, not just as a feeling, based on the statement of officials participating in the process, is that the bailout review will close on May 24,” the government spokeswoman said. “What will likely be the subject of discussion for a greater length of time is the debt.”
