Russian nationalist Dugin briefly detained in Greece
Russian nationalist Aleksandr Dugin was briefly detained at Thessaloniki’s Makedonia Airport on Tuesday, police sources revealed on Wednesday.
Dugin, who is regarded as an adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, was held because his name was similar to one on a list of wanted individuals. Police released him as soon as they confirmed he was not the same person as the one on their list.
In 2015, the US Treasury Department placed Dugin on a list of Russian citizens sanctioned because of their links to the war in Ukraine.
Dugin advocated Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
