Vandalism of Athens prison guard’s home seen as intimidation attempt

The entrance to the home of a prison guard who works at Athens’s Korydallos jail was torched by unknown assailants using a flare and a bottle of flammable liquid on Friday morning, in an attack that authorities described as an attempt to intimidate him.

According to reports, before the suspects left the scene they sprayed the guard’s surname on a wall with the message that “next time there will be knives.”

An investigation has been launched, while officials are examining a possible link to a recent search of the prison conducted by guards and police units.
