No metro over weekend, buses to halt on Sunday

There will be no metro service in Athens on Saturday and Sunday, while the ISAP electric railway, buses and trolley buses will not be in operation on Sunday due to strikes by unionists who are protesting the government’s multi-bill.

Intercity trains and the Proastiakos suburban railway will not be affected by the protest action.

Members of the transport unions are due to gather in front of Parliament to demonstrate at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Union leaders are expected to meet again on Monday to decide whether to take any further action.

Workers at the Piraeus and Thessaloniki port authorities (OLP and OLTH) will also walk off the job over the weekend in protest at plans to privatize the two organizations.
