Ferry returns to Piraeus after crashing into pier during departure
A ferry boat heading to the eastern Aegean islands of Chios and Lesvos was forced to return to Piraeus on Friday night for a technical inspection after crashing into a pier during its departure.
According to the Merchant Marine Ministry, the 9 p.m. crash was witnessed and reported by passengers on board, forcing the Ariadne ferry’s captain to return to port.
The ship departed at 01.45 a.m. on Saturday morning after an inspection revealed it had suffered minor damages to its stern that did not compromise its sea worthiness.
