Plane spoils Argos picnic
A small private plane from Athens made an unauthorized stop yesterday at a disused airfield near the Peloponnesian town of Argos where picnickers were celebrating Clean Monday, badly damaging two parked cars upon takeoff. Nobody was in the vehicles when the four-seater’s undercarriage smashed into them, but one woman was slightly injured trying to protect her two children. A large section of the undercarriage fell among the picnickers – who were attending festivities organized by the Argos municipality. Piloted by retired air force officer Ilias Boznos, the plane made a brief stop at Argos to pick up two passengers. «The plane landed illegally, among cars and a crowd of people, without permission,» Argos aero club head Antonis Rentas said. «Nobody should have landed at that airfield.» The plane managed to make a safe landing at the Tripolis airport. Boznos and his three passengers were unhurt. Civil aviation authorities will conduct an investigation.
