New Democracy chief hails symbolic move to new HQ

If New Democracy wants to convince voters it has what it takes to sort out the debt-wracked nation’s economy, it first has to streamline the party’s own finances, opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Thursday.

“We are putting our house, New Democracy, in order. And we are thereby sending a message to Greek society that we can put the country in order as well,” Mitsotakis said from the party’s new headquarters on Pireos Street in Moschato, southern Athens, ahead of a meeting with close aides.

Costing 9,800 euros a month, the rent on the renovated building is significantly cheaper than that for the party’s former base on Syngrou Avenue, which was 95,000 per month.

ND has not said when the new offices will be officially inaugurated.
