Two of the victims of Aegina boat collision drowned, coroner says
A 77-year-old man who was driving a speedboat that hit a tourist pleasure boat off Aegina on Tuesday, killing four people, on Friday denied claims by witnesses that he was going too fast and indicated that the driver of the other vessel bore some blame for the collision.
In his deposition before an investigating magistrate in Piraeus, the 77-year-old also claimed that he was unable to come to the aid of the passengers of the speedboat who had fallen into the water following the collision, blaming strong winds.
A coroner determined that a 5-year-old girl and her 44-year-old father, two of the four victims in the collision, were not killed on impact but drowned.
