Tsochatzopoulos appeal for early release rejected

An Athens appeals court on Wednesday rebuffed an appeal for early release by former defense minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, 77, who is serving a 20-year sentence for money laundering.

An initial request for early release by Tsochatzopoulos was turned down earlier this year.

He was found guilty in 2013 of running a money laundering racket to cover the trail of kickbacks he is alleged to have received from defense deals. In his appeal, the ex-minister cited his advanced age.
