Eurogroup to decide on release of further aid to Athens

Eurozone finance ministers were meeting in Luxembourg on Monday to decide whether Athens has made enough progress in implementing reforms to allow the release of the next tranche of bailout funding, worth 2.8 billion euros.

According to sources, one of the key issues ministers will consider is whether Greek authorities have done enough to address the problem of billions of euros of state debts to individuals and businesses.

It is possible that officials will approve a portion of the tranche, sources indicated. Of the total, 1.7 billion euros is to go toward paying off state debts and the remaining 1.1 billion is for repaying Greece's debt.

Ministers are also expected to approve the return of foreign auditors to Athens, most likely on October 18.
