Hospital workers walk out in Athens and Piraeus

Hospital workers in Athens and Piraeus were to walk off the job on Monday, staging a four-hour work stoppage from 11 a.m., in protest at staff shortages and cutbacks.

Protesters were to rally outside the Health Ministry at 12.30 pm., demanding hirings and job security.

According to the Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN), state hospitals in Greece are suffering from acute staff shortages and have antiquated medical machines that are frequently out of order.
