Giorgos Voulgarakis. He began his political career in the party’s youth wing, ONNED, eventually becoming its president. He has had close relations with Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyannis and with (her father) Constantine Mitsotakis, but in recent years has taken a more independent course. One of the few representatives of the liberal trend in the new government, he served as deputy public works and environment minister in charge of the environment from 1992-1993. Now 45 years old, he has continuously represented the party in Athens’s first electoral district since 1989.
