Hania gunman surrenders

An armed man who barricaded himself inside the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA) building in Hania, Crete, Monday, while holding three staff members hostage, gave himself up after several hours.

The 45-year-old, a father of five, forced his way into the building at around 8 a.m. and while brandishing a firearm demanded that authorities renew his license to operate a kiosk in Hania’s Venetian Harbor.

Police were called and it appears that the man shot at them three or four times.

The man surrendered several hours later. None of the OKANA employees was harmed.
