New bill aims to speed up divorce

Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis has put to public consultation a draft bill that will significantly speed up the process of uncontested divorce.

If the legislation is passed, couples that agree to dissolve their union will be able to settle any differences arising from issues such as separation of property, custody and child support, etc, with a simple notarial act.

The act will need to be signed by their spouses and their legal representatives or just the latter.

Parents who fail to honor the terms of child support will face up to one year in prison, according to the draft law.
