Police net 44 suspects in raids on major racket

Police authorities in Athens and the Dodecanese islands in the southeastern Aegean said on Wednesday they had smashed three criminal rings that worked together to distribute large quantities of cocaine, cannabis and hashish from Albania in Greece, and traffic people from Turkey to Greece and beyond.

Forty-four people – 23 Albanians, 20 Greeks and one Pakistani – were arrested in raids conducted in Attica and on the island of Kos.

According to the Attica Police, the ring’s headquarters was in Mesogeia, an area northeast of Athens.

Greek authorities also said they worked in cooperation with Europol.

Meanwhile the Attica Police said on Wednesday that it has unraveled a total of 12 crime rings and made 345 arrests of people involved in 191 serious felonies in the last week.
