German terror suspect nabbed for smuggling

A German national, arrested in Thrace in the act of transporting illegal immigrants from Turkey, is to be held pending extradition to Germany, where he faces charges of alleged involvement in a left-wing Turkish militant group, police said yesterday. However, officials insisted that the case was not connected with yesterday’s string of arrests in four European countries and Turkey of suspected members of the Turkish Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). The suspect, who was arrested early on Wednesday, was identified as Sinan Bozkurt, 30, an ethnic Kurd living in Germany. Greek authorities discovered that he was wanted by Germany for alleged involvement in the Dev Sol group, a forerunner of DHKP-C, and murder. Bozkurt will be charged with migrant smuggling, while the three Turkish migrants will be tried for illegal entry.
