Greece bottom of EU chart in gender equality
Greece ranks last among European Union member-states in terms of gender equality, according to an annual index compiled by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) that was made public on Wednesday.
The top performing country is Sweden, with a score of 82.6 out of 100, while Greece is at the bottom of the index with 50 points. The country that has improved the most as regards gender equality is Italy, which gained 12.9 points since last year and now ranks 14th.
“We are still a long way off from reaching a gender-equal society and all countries in the European Union have room to improve,” said EIGE director Virginija Langbakk. “In some areas, the gaps are even bigger than 10 years ago.”
