Church charity has helped 2,764 people this month
The Apostoli charity, which is run by the Archbishopric of Athens, said on Friday that it has provided 2,764 members of low-income households with food packages so far this month as part of its joint campaign with the Masoutis supermarket chain.
The aim of the program is to provide handouts to 1,040 families every month, particularly in parts of northern Greece where the repercussions of the economic crisis have been particularly acute.
A total of 200 families on Lesvos were provided with basic food staples as part of the same campaign.
“The number of appeals for help reflect the real scope of [the problem],” the general manager of Apostoli, Constantinos Dimtsas, said.
