Candidates for new party to hold televised debate on Monday
Candidate leaders for a new center-left party that is set to be launched this year will be holding their first television debate on Monday night, amid speculation over the party’s makeup and platform.
The nine candidates running for the party’s top spot include Fofi Gennimata, the president of socialist PASOK and widely considered the favorite, independent Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis, also a front-runner, and centrist To Potami chief Stavros Theodorakis, a popular former journalist.
Speaking to Kathimerini’s Sunday edition, Gennimata said she is looking “for a vote of confidence… so that we [the center-left] can be in a better position to change the balance of power in the next elections.”
“Voters have… seen their hopes dashed by the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition. They feel cheated and they are starting to come back,” she added.
The debate will be aired on ERT at 10 p.m. with a second scheduled for November 4.
