Brothel queen dead in gangland execution

Athens police were yesterday investigating the possible involvement of organized sex-trafficking rings in the gangland execution of one of the country’s major brothel-owners on Sunday night. Vaia Zissi, 56, was found dead in her car shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday, in the parking lot of her Ano Patissia apartment block. Police said she had been shot four times through the car window, just after driving into the lot. None of the victim’s neighbors heard the shots, due to the prevailing din of shouting and fireworks that followed the end of a major soccer league match. According to police, Zissi owned dozens of brothels in Athens and other parts of Greece, and had been investigated in the past for allegedly forcing into prostitution young women from Eastern Europe whom she smuggled into the country.
