Anti-fascist rally planned outside court

The Movement Against Racism and the Fascist Threat (KEERFA) is scheduling a rally on Wednesday morning outside the Athens Court of Appeals to coincide with the start of the trial of a Golden Dawn member accused of attacking a student.

Christos Zervas, a key member of the neo-Nazi party’s central committee, a close aide of party leader Nikos Michaloliakos and self-professed chief of security at party headquarters, is accused of ordering an assault on March 31 against university student Alexis Lazaris near the Mesogeion Avenue offices.

It is thought that because of his appearance, Lazaris was a victim of opportunity for the Golden Dawn security unit that was looking to send a message after the party’s offices had come under attack earlier on the same day by self-styled anarchists.

The rally calling for Zervas’s conviction is scheduled to start at 8.30 a.m. and may cause traffic disruptions on Alexandras Avenue.
