Police detain man, 58, for murder of tax officer in cemetery

The Greek police (ELAS) on Tuesday said it had detained a 58-year-old man who has admitted to killing a 32-year-old woman at Athens’s Second Cemetery in the western suburb of Rizoupoli on October 18.

The suspect is reportedly a Greek national with a record for drug-related offenses and is currently being questioned over the murder of Theodora Zeberi, who was found by the cemetery’s priest after being stabbed multiple times.

Investigators claim to have irrefutable evidence putting the suspect at the scene of the crime, as well as CCTV footage allegedly showing him trying to sell the victim’s cell phone a few hours after the attack at a shop near Omonia Square in downtown Athens.

They believe the motive was robbery.
