Kammenos accepts ‘political responsibility’ for Rouvikonas raid on Defense Ministry

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos has accepted “political responsibility” for the raid last week on the Defense Ministry in northern Athens by members of the anti-establishment group Rouvikonas (Greek for Rubicon).

“The [protesters] should not have been able to enter, nor exit [the compound], said Kammenos, who is also coalition partner and head of the right-wing populist party Independent Greeks (ANEL).

“We will find out what happened and we will take measures so that it will not happen again,” Kammenos said, adding that military police are not entitled to detain citizens on military grounds.

A group of around 20 people breached security at the gate of the Mesogeion Avenue compound in the early afternoon on Friday and ran toward the ministry building, scattering fliers bearing anti-government and anti-austerity slogans in their wake.
