Prosecutor probes clashes at property auctions

The head of the First Instance Court prosecutor’s office, Ilias Zagoraios, has ordered a preliminary investigation into the clashes between protesters and riot police on Wednesday, when property auctions were taking place at a court in Athens.

The police used pepper spray inside the building to disperse the activists, who were protesting against the auctions being held. The court could not be used the following day because of the lingering effects of the pepper spray.

The use of pepper spray is one of the aspects that will be investigated. The probe will also assess whether offenses were committed by the officers or protesters.
