Center-left reveals members of top decision-making body

Greece’s new center-left grouping, Movement for Change, has unveiled its political council, which is the first element of the new party’s structure and its key decision-making body.

The six-member panel will consist of PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata, who was recently elected to lead the new party, To Potami chief Stavros Theodorakis, PASOK MEP Nikos Androulakis, who competed with Gennimata in a runoff vote, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis, who took part in the first leadership ballot, the leader of Democratic Left Thanasis Theocharopoulos and former prime minister George Papandreou, who heads the Movement of Democratic Socialists.

Gennimata will preside over the political council, which will guide the new grouping to its founding congress, expected to take place in March.

Sources suggest that the body will remain in place even after the first congress, given that it is made up of the top figures involved in the effort to unite Greece’s center-left.

Constitutional law professor Nikos Alivizatos, who headed the committee that oversaw the recent leadership ballots, turned down the opportunity to take part in the political council.
