Man, 25, arrested on rape charges
A 25-year-old man accused of attacking nine women in the Ambelokipi district north of central Athens was remanded in custody on Thursday.
The man, who was arrested in an undercover operation on Sunday night, is being charged with three counts of rape and six counts of attempted rape.
Following his arrest after he attempted to accost an undercover police officer, the suspected assailant denied that he had sexually assaulted nine women in separate incidents after spotting them walking alone after dark.
After being positively identified by his alleged victims, however, he confessed to the attacks.
The 25-year-old is due to be examined by a psychiatrist.
