A year after the end of the actual war in Iraq, the situation appears chaotic from the security point of view. What conditions, in Russia’s opinion, could lead to a way out of the current crisis? The situation in Iraq is developing into a real nightmare. Unfortunately, Russia’s warnings last year fell on deaf ears in certain circles. The problem now is how to find a way out of this situation. As far as Russia is concerned, the main thing is to truly restore Iraq’s national sovereignty and for the UN to play a central role in this process. In this framework, one idea we have put forward is for an international conference on Iraq with the participation of all Iraqi political parties. This includes the (Iraqi) opposition, as well as all neighboring countries and the permanent members of the Security Council.
