Party offices of former gov’t heavyweight to be auctioned

The offices of the Popular Unity party, a radical offshoot of leftist SYRIZA created by former government heavyweight Panagiotis Lafazanis after he split from the administration, are going under the hammer.

According to reports, the office space is being foreclosed by the owner’s creditors over overdue debts of 100,000 euros and will go up for auction in a process that has been vehemently opposed by Lafazanis and his supporters.

The bank in question reportedly did not know that the office space on 14 Patission Street in downtown Athens was being rented by Popular Unity and vowed to keep the party’s lease if it takes ownership of the property.

The auction is not expected to take place without incident.
