Patoulis says will run for Athens mayor
Giorgos Patoulis, who is president of Greece’s Union of Municipalities and Communities (KEDE), on Friday said he will run for mayor of Athens in the next local elections.
Speaking to local media, Patoulis, who is also mayor of Maroussi north of Athens, said he did not seek to be endorsed by political parties, but to attract “the support of the people.”
However, Patoulis said, it would be “a great honor” if any parties chose to throw their weight behind his campaign.
“This is not the Athens we would like to have,” he said adding that his goal would be to turn the Greek capital into a global brand name.
