Mitsotakis, Anastasiades hold telephone conversation after Turkey renews Navtex
Greek opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has vowed to make every possible effort within the context of the center-right European People’s Party (EPP), the largest grouping in the European Parliament, to highlight Turkey’s provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean and safeguard Cyprus’s sovereign rights.
The New Democracy leader made the pledge during a phone call with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday, a day after Turkey renewed a Navtex reserving an area inside Block 3 of the island’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) for a military exercise until March 10.
A previous notice, which expires on Thursday, effectively blocked a drillship chartered by Italian energy giant Eni from approaching the area.
