Doctor held for raping patients

A Piraeus gynaecologist was charged yesterday with drugging and raping a string of his married patients whom he then blackmailed, threatening to send photos of their ordeal to their husbands. The suspect, Efthymios Efthymiopoulos, 46, was caught after one of his victims went to the police a few days ago. Officers arrested the gynaecologist on Tuesday in the act of receiving cash from his patient in return for giving the young woman a couple of photographs showing him having sex with her. Police said Efthymiopoulos took the money, but refused to surrender the pictures and told his alleged victim to take off her clothes. At that point officers, who were listening in on the conversation, made the arrest. Police believe Efthymiopoulos had raped at least another three of his patients after giving them coffee or fruit juice laced with sleeping pills – a large supply of which were found in his surgery on 46 Aghiou Eleftheriou St in the Piraeus district of Kaminia.
