Athens runners to take over center tomorrow
The heart of Athens will be out-of-bounds to motorists and public transport for most of tomorrow morning, due to an annual open footrace in which some 30,000 people are expected to take part. Traffic police yesterday warned that traffic would be gradually brought to a stop from 6 a.m. along the route of the Athens Fun Run, organized by the municipal authority, which will offer runners three options: an 8-kilometer (5-mile) run from the Panathenaic Stadium along Vassileos Constantinou, Vassilissis Sofias, Alexandras, Patission, Stadiou, Filellinon, Amalias, Diakou and Ardittou streets back to the stadium; a 3-kilometer (nearly 2-mile) race that will turn left down Vas. Sofias to Syntagma Square, and thence follow the same route to the stadium; and a race for disabled participants from Syntagma Square to the stadium. All three races start at 10 a.m.
